The demographic for E4 is predominantly females aged 16-30. Viewers tend to be sociable, connected to the world and rely heavily on internet and social media. The main audience tends to be students and young adults. Channel 4 is a publisher/broadcaster and doesn’t produce its own programmes but instead commissions them from independent production companies.  
E4’s Mission statement states
“Our vision is to partner, encourage, enable and hold ourselves and others to account. We want an inclusive and diverse workplace and industry to become a reality: a place where we respect, embrace and harness the uniqueness of individuals and their talents. We want indies to feel that: Channel 4 enables them to produce challenging, creative, diverse content that tells the stories of an inclusive and diverse society, utilising the talent of all. We want viewers to feel that: Channel 4 shows Britain the way it is – full of difference and variety. We want our staff to feel that: They can be themselves, be different and be welcomed with open arms.”
There is only one soap opera shown on E4 called Hollyoaks, which is usually broadcast at 6 in the morning and 7 in the evening. The evening viewing is aimed at teenagers or young adults are usually around the time they’ve finished school/ work and have cooked dinner and are finally sitting down. The morning viewing is most likely for older people who get up early and watch the show before they head off to work or whilst they are eating their breakfast. The news is not shown on this channel and they mainly show reality TV and US Sitcoms.
