Statement of Intent

I intend to make sure my posters follow and comply with the rules of ASA such as “advertisements should not mislead or cause serious or widespread offence or harm, especially to children or the vulnerable” and “Living individuals should be protected from unwarranted infringements of privacy.”

Channel 4 is a publisher/broadcaster and doesn’t produce its own programmes but instead commissions them from independent production companies. The demographic for E4 is predominantly females aged 16-30 who either work or are students. E4’s Mission statement states “Our vision is to partner, encourage, enable and hold ourselves and others to account. We want an inclusive and diverse workplace and industry to become a reality” and “We want viewers to feel that: Channel 4 shows Britain the way it is – full of difference and variety.” The reality TV show I plan on creating isn’t a typical reality TV show as it is not romance based and offers creativity and inspiration through the designing of products.

My idea is to create a TV show that documents eight different teams creating and designing different soapboxes for the Redbull Soapbox races. The teams will complete in a championship, so at the end of each race the team with the slowest finishing time goes home and the others get to create a new soapbox for the next race. The show will follow the stages of creating the soapboxes from paper to the race. The target audience is working class people between the ages of 16-25. I aim to make my posters appealing to this audience by making them humorous, eye catching and simplistic to leave the audience intrigued with the show. The colours are going to be dark and mysterious to correlate to the title “Soapbox Survivors,” and will contrast the humorous images. The images I will use will feature people of the age of the target audience. They will be presented as creative, entertaining and funny to appeal to the audience and to go against the stereotype of the young people being lazy and delinquents.
